am i doomed?
i thought of using the commander mode of my SB800 as an alternative. any other suggestions? |

I think you'll be fine with just an sb800.

I saw a pro wedding shooter at a friend's wedding a few weeks ago and she didn't use a flash bracket. She certainly looked very professional, so I guess she knew what she was doing.

You're not doomed. I own a great bracket but hardly use it because, on-the-fly like at a ceremony, I get overwhelmed with it..it's big, and heavy once you attach everything. I get by fine without it. When I start using my new flash, tho, it will ONLY attach to a bracket so I guess I should start doing some upper body workouts now. LOL.
GOod luck :-) You'll do fine. |

i don't know about that... I'd get one if you can. It does not have to be expensive, just do the trick. I think mine cost $40 and I remember I could have gone even cheaper.
edit to say but I don't know what kind of flash the sb800 is- I only assume it would be mounted on your camera.

GoldBerry - thanks for the input. what do you suggest if i plan to do a portrait shot (vertical) and dont want to have lousy side lighting. i think this is one issue that i have to contend with without the bracket.
oOWonderBreadOo - thank you too for taking time out. SB800 is a great flash that is capable of doing wireless communication with my D70. as an alternative i would switch to commander mode (wireless) and take off the flash from the mount and hand-held it while i shoot portrait. kinda tedious and difficult.
