I have been using Picasa2 for several months and am very pleased with its "photo indexing" capabilities. It's also decent for really quick edits/crops for my blog. But recently, I've been having problems with it:

When I run the program, nothing happens. Windows Task Manager tells me that both Picasa Media Detector and Picasa2 are up and running. However, Picasa2 shows somewhere beteen 70-90% CPU usage. This will go on, sometimes for minutes, sometimes for hours, before Picasa actually opens up on screen.

I've looked online for answers to this problem and found similar issues but not mine precisely.

I have other "indexing software" available, but it doesn't really do it as gracefully as Picasa: Photoshop CS, Digital Photo Professional (Canon), ZoomBrowser (Canon).

That said, I have 2 questions:

1. Does anyone know how to fix this problem, and;
2. Does anyone know of good solid indexing software that approaches Picasa's quality (and actually works all the time)?

I use the automate function daily - not quite what I meant.

What I meant by "photo indexing": Picasa will keep track of all your images across multiple hard drives. You can drag/drop images between folders, import from CF cards, and generally see a clear folder-by-folder listing of image thumbnails (resizeable thumbnails).

I realize there are probably a TON of apps out there that do this. I was just pleased with the way Picasa handled it. If I could find something with Picasa's look/feel that actually RAN every time I clicked it, I'd be a happy man!
