Just got a Rebel XT from hubby for my birthday. Going to order a zoom - 75-300 out of my savings, then save my money for a 100mm macro. Battery is charging. It took me hours to get up the nerve to take it out of the box. Just hope I'm not out of my league. Thery'll be a whole lot a learnin' goin' on with this machine. |

I went from the Panasonic FZ20 to the Rebel XT and it has been a BIG learning curve. I'm still (after 4 months) in that learning curve but getting there.
I guess my biggest problem was overcoming the difference the picture looks straight out of the camera. I had little editing to do when I had my point and shot but a lot of editing to do with the Rebel XT. But it will be well worth it when I learn how to edit better.
Congratulations and just do as everyone else has - practice, practice, practice. |

It does not matter what camera you have... it is how you use it that matters. Just go out and have fun with it and see where that leads you.
Btw... you have fine images already that you have submited to DPC. You are deserving! :)

Congrats on the new camera, Lynn. stdavidson has a point about how you use it and you've been doing a fine job. Good hardware does help though, but as Scott said - big learning curve - but worth it to help get you to the next level. Best wishes to you!

Go Lynn Go! I just amde the move too, except to the 20D. I'll tell you the same thing I'm telling everyone else that'll listen to my boring refrain: Go for the new 60mm Macro from Canon instead of the 100mm. It's a better all-around lens, in terms of its focal length, it's optically just as good, and it's quite a bit lighter and easier hand-hold when you want to stick your face in things and macro them without a tripod.
Robt.

If you are thinking about getting a consumer level zoom lens, I'd recommend the Sigma APO 70-300 II in the new DG version. Outperforms all other consumer level zooms in that range, including the Canon.
