I know I have only had the privilege of being a member of DPC for a short time, but even I can see the need for some type of action needed on the number of entries to the challenges, particularly the open challenge. There have been many posts over the past weeks about not only the daunting task of voting on a challenge with over 600 entries (even 20%) but the quality of vote received. DPC is a great site and more and more people are joining every day, 55 on 7/19, and to continue the growth changes need to be made. The last thing I want to suggest is limiting entries or taking on new members but in some way we need to expand the site so we can all enjoy not only submitting photos but voting and commenting as well.
My suggestion would be to have 2 member challenges, as we did last week. I thought for sure the basic editing challenge was adopted to relieve the pressure on the open challenge, but I was wrong. I know there are many others with even better ideas than my own. My hope here with this post is not to bitch about the current situation but to offer well thought out ideas on how improvements can be made. Maybe even come up with and idea that can be adopted. I love this site more than any other site on the Internet and I want others to be able to enjoy it as much as I do.

I thought it was solved, they were going to have 3 challenges per week -- or 4 -- then you can only enter 2 of the 4 or 2 of the 3...that would solve that, and give people another reason to join to full membership.

I have to agree with JRTODD. I know, I know I̢۪m not a paying member, but that will change soon (just picked up some new lenses for the camera). I had a submission for the texture challenge but during the rush to clean it up for submitting I noticed the 600+ entries and just figured, queue the Brooklyn accent, eh forget about it!

I like the idea of having more than two challenges a week. I̢۪m sure this has been brought up before but what about having four challenges? I propose the following, two member and two open challenges; with members being able to enter ANY and ALL challenges if they choose. Non-paying members would have to choose on ONE of the open challenges to enter. I feel this would spread out a lot of the open challenge entries and give people more options to shoot and enter challenges to express themselves.

JMHO,

NaldSLC

Well there are only 2 challenges posted at the moment.

This same subject comes up with every large challenge. Personally, I'm getting tired of it. I thought it was put to bed fairly conclusively after the informal poll found that about 60% of us wanted to keep things the way they are.

Large challenges are a fact of life. Please try to adjust your thinking as dpc grows.

LOL...that's ridiculous. People are probably just afraid of change.

Think about it -- when cars became more popular, they didn't tell people to drive slower and allow more time. They didn't tell people to leave early or 'adjust their thinking' -- they built more roads -- and widened the ones they already have.

Two challenges have been the thing to do since back in the day when there were 50 entries per challenge -- things seemed to be a bit more 'constructive' then, of course -- but for goodness sake...don't just accept something, do something about it!

Fair enough, lets get back to the important things....Coke or Pepsi!

I can't believe the lack of interest on this. Oh well, mouth shut
