Do any of you hardware gurus know if there's a way to download the contents of a CF card to an iPod? I'm going on vacation next week and with both a 10D and a Rebel, I know we're going to run short on CF space real quick. Not having a laptop, am I screwed or is there a way to connect the cameras directly to the iPod (4th Gen 20 gig, not an iPod photo) and off-load?

Will this do?

iPod Media Reader

Can't be done. You're screwed. :-(

Hmm... I stand corrected. I thought the Belkin Media Readers only worked with the iPod Photo, but it looks like that might work (and they're less than $50). Bear in mind that it's REALLY slow (like 25 minutes to transfer a 512Mb card) and eats batteries like Belgian chocolate.

Or, in the US, maybe get it here :

The iPod readers will work in a pinch, but it can be a slow, klunky process. A better solution might be additional cards. A fast 2Gb CF Card is $92 shipped and 1Gb is $50.

The newest version of the Belkin was only $29.95 at the Apple store (plus another $11 for 2 day shipping). The reviews were pretty good, but the slow pace is acknowledged. Can I do it with batteries or should I get the AC power cord for the 10D too?? Man, accessories are a drag!

For speed etc, if you've got the money, get one of these

X-Drive

Got one last week for my birthday, transfers fast (1GB in 8 minutes) and can be upgraded easily with a new larger laptop disk.

Prices aren't too bad either! (Well, in the UK anyway...)

You would plug your CF card into the reader, not the camera.

Don't think there is an external power cord for the reader.

Belkin has two versions. One reads from a CF card slot and the other (likely the one you saw at the Apple Store) connects via your camera's USB cable. The USB version is, uh... "less slow," but both run on batteries and drain them fairly quickly. You'd want to have a couple sets of NiMH batteries on hand.
