I was doing some studio shots just now and never turned off the camera in between. Used RAW.

Took about 10 shots in 5 minutes and turned the camera off. I checked the card with my computer, and only the last 2 files are there. I plugged the card to my camera and checked the image browser. No files visible. Checked format menu and it said 94mb used. I have had the feeling, that some photos were missing..

Is this a common issue?

Is your card Lexar?

Spend the extra money on good cards. I lost a whole set of team photos because of some cheap CF card. Humiliation was the key word here!

So cheap cards actually do lose photos
crap...

Any suggestions for a cheap and reliable 512-1024mb card under $100?

I have a couple of really slow cards that have not given me any problems. One is Lexar and the other is SanDisk. By slow, I mean I have to have the USB 2.0 card reader plugged into a USB 1.1 port so the transfer rate is not too fast for the cards. These are dirt cheap now.

I haven't tried any of the faster cards..... yet ....

The problem with slowness isn't in the cards. It's in the USB 1.0

No it's not. The minimum transfer rate on my USB 2.0 port is faster than the max speed of the cards.
