My nephew was visiting this past week and he let me scan a snapshot of him and his girlfriend from a cheap 35mm. I scanned at 300dpi and fixed it up a couple ways. Let me know what you think (post here).

| Nice work. The color one cleaned up nicely. The duotone is a bit dark for me. I like lighter sepia's, but you may not. :-) |

It looks much better than the scan!
Honestly, IMO, you cleaned it up a little too much. :-) The skin feels a little too smooth, and the background blur is too much or constant or something. Maybe a gradient mask so the background blur is stronger as you get farther away, or just not quite as much of it.
I agree with ButterflySis on the sepia one. It just doesn't feel right here.
Again, just one guy's opinion.

| If your goal is to give it less of a "snapshot" feel, I suggest that--whatever color/tonal/blurring you do--try cropping it to a square with them centered. |

Thanks for all the comments - here's some replies:
The "blue thing" is a little heart sticker or something I think she stuck on his cheek and I did remove it in one version I have, but I thought it had sentimental value to him.
I used NeatImage to clean it up mostly and I didn't try tweaking it at all, just auto this & auto that - the pic was very noisy. Then I did go in and clean up the faces a bit. She had some blotchy acne and I cloned and blurred it out. If I had it to do over, I would've scanned at a higher resilution to give me more to work with.
So, how do you feel about cleaning up facial skin? I mean, do you think it's like I'm trying to say I can make her look better than she does in real life? I'm always a little apprehensive about how people will react when I do it, but nobody's ever said anything.

| I think you should show it to her and let her decide how much of the "Playboy model" treatment she wants you to give it. |
