Take a photo that clearly conveys your interpretation of identity.

The description is purposefully vague...identity is open to interpretation, which is exactly what the challenge would be looking for - creativity.

In my opinion, so many challenges are narrowed down (i.e., Granular, Triangle, Construction). When I browse through the previous challenges, I think some of the best photos came from less defined challenges, like Authority, Opposites, and Humor.

What do you think?

This sounds like it could have interesting outcomes. I would be into trying it. There is a lot of room for personal interpretation, which would give us a lot of varied entries to choose from, as opposed to the narrow field, like you said.

I like it but usually when I like a topic it never goes thru. lol
I also think it would do away with does not meet the challenge because its basically a free study.

I like it.

I had an idea for a Photo Haiku Challenge. Text included.

Almost, yes. It would also do away with the forum posts asking "What does this challenge topic mean?" - at least till the challenge was over. :o)

I've seen quite a few challenges where at least 2 of the top 3 photos have an extremely similar subject. Some of them seem to be more about who can take the same photo with a better background than who can be more creative with the topic.

Did your idea die of loneliness, perhaps?

So....what do you think of the Photo Haiku idea???

I think it's interesting, but if you want it to have a chance, I think you'll have to post a new topic in the Challenge Suggestions forum and include a description of the idea. :)

Any other takers on Identity??

Identity: needs more explanation for me (thick skull) or examples
Haiku: I'm with notonline (the challenge idea killer) on this one

:)

Well, for instance, Britannica.com's dictionary gives this as one of the definitions of identity:

The distinguishing character or personality of an individual. That's probably what most people would take it to mean - what makes you who you are? Or even, what makes someone else who they are?

Oh with that definition I see some very stereotypical voters, and I also see people taking offense. I LOVE IT! I always do love the wide open ones, gives me a chance to be a little more artistic, and edgey.

What about one , my 14 yr old nephew suggested that, I thought it was pretty cool idea.

I'm not sure how voters could be stereotypical. Care to explain? :o)

I might be able to explain through example! In my profile you will see a photo for the decisions challenge, title "Crossing the Line", now I mind you that im generalizing here, but the point I through out here was family vs. cocaine, and wow! People just didn't get it, you could obviously see that in the comments.

My point here is that we all live different lives, in most cases different countries, different worlds. Identifying aspects in some lives are intolerable in others. Its just hard for somebody that grew up in the hills of west Beverly to understand the cruelity and injustices of the Ghetto. And of course vice versa for the ghetto kid to understand West Beverly. Am I being clear at all.

One other thing before I go, like i said, I would give two thumbs up to the challenge, because personally I love the personal emotions it would breed, and the diverse interpretations.
