at work today, the secretary calls the company that we buy our printer ink cartridges from. Background: Being in the public education system, we are required to buy things that are on state contract. Even if it is much, much cheaper elsewhere. This means customer service doesn't have to exist. So, we order a refurbished ink cartridge (again a "requirement") from this state contract person. Our tech guy goes to put it in. Won't work. It's empty. Send it back.

Secretary: I'm calling to see why you haven't credited our account or sent us another cartridge for the one we sent back.

Persononphone: (Pause) Well, it was empty.

Secretary: Yes, that is why we sent it back.

Persononphone; But we can't credit your account for an empty cartridge.

Secretary: You were supposed to send us a new (refurbished) one.

Persononphone: Yes?

Secretary: And it was empty.

Persononphone: Right. But we cant' credit you for an empty cartridge.

Secretary: Why?????

Persononphone: Because it was empty.

Secretary: You sent it to us empty. Our tech guy couldn't use it [duh], so we sent it back with a note that said it was defective.

Persononphone; Oh, we sent it to you empty?

Secretary: Yes. Can we please have another one or our account credited?

Persononphone; I can't credit you for an empty cartridge.

Secretary: What????

Persononphone; Let me let you talk ot my supervisor.

[wait, wiat, wait]

Secretary: Hello, are you [person's name] supervisor?

Persononphone: No, Im the whateverhe is called.

So, the secretary goes through the whole thing again, only this time she has to "prove" that this was the only one sent back.

Finally, he finds where she had returned it and it was marked defective.

Secretary: Are you going to credit us or give us another one.

Persononphone: We can't do that. It was empty when we got it.

And that is how it ended. So, she had to go to our administrators "on the hill" and let them handle it.

ROFL, thats hillarious Karmat, I am sorry, you must be going through alot of grief being under state contract.

I ended up going back to Office depot and wouldn't you believe it, after some searching they eventually found out that they actually had a hunk of Green Ink Cartriges in their storage area!

Everyone who was working in the store was totally confused, they had never seen green ink cartridges before. I wonder how long time they had been in there.. Something in their procedures was not working right..

I think they were lucky to have a customer who insisted, but how many would actually go through what I did.. Well.. I guess next time I run out, they will have them in the store.

Yay, I got my Green Ink!!
