Well, I think I've worn out my Sony f717, the shutter simply doesn't open. I can adjust settings normally, take images, everything works correctly, but it is as if the lense cap is on constantly (it isn't) or the mechanism that opens the shutter wore down. I am guessing I'm going to have to send it in, but I'm wondering if anybody has had this problem before, if there is anything I can do to fix it?
Fortunatly, I can still continue my photography for the time being with my small Casio.
Any information or ideas are appreciated, thanks. |

Bring on the Sunset challenge! ;-)
Sorry to hear that Thomas. Maybe the camera recognized that you've outgrown it? |

Have you tried taking the batteries out for a few minutes?
Every so often, my Olumpus will go wacko during the file write process; it gets stuck, shows that my 64mb card has room for some 864 more pictures, and the camera won't even power down.
The last time (a few days ago), I just popped out the batteries, put them back, shut down and started up again, and it resumed normal operation.
Fortunately, I don't think the Dell patent covers your Sony peripheral device ....

We all know perfectly well how he'd do with a DSLR, which is why the Sunset challenge is only in if Zoomdak is out. I assume you're familiar with the phrase, "The coast is clear?"
NONONONO, let's see how he'd do with an Etch-a-sketch and a blindfold. ;-) |

Hahahah, I'm pretty sure he'll work something out and get a blue one!
Anyway, that'll be another great pic to admire, be it from a blindfold or a DSLr! Let it come...... |

LOL @ y'all!
Aww, poor Thomas. I know how ya feel, tho, cuz mine did the smae thing.
Sounds exactly like what mine did, the settings would all work, etc.
I'm sorry! :(
Time for a DSLR, yup. Look out, DPC!

Originally posted by scalvert: We all know perfectly well how he'd do with a DSLR | Personally, I don't think my scores would be much different with a DSLR. There are plenty of people on this website that have DSLRs and have never scored in the top 10, and there are plenty others that don't have DSLRs and have ribboned. So I guess I'm saying that you would be stuck with just as many darn beach pictures =), but maybe the print sizes I would offer would be a bit bigger. Anybody have a DSLR they want to sell me though? =)
On the original subject: anybody have any other advice for my broken camera?
GeneralE - tried the batteries out for about an hour (was out on a photo shoot on the beach with my other camera, lol), still doesn't cooperate. |

Hey Thomas...sent you a pm about a guy who fixes Sonys. Hope it's helpful. He will even give you hints to check out before sending it in anyplace. Lots of glowing comments about his reliability, quickness and affordability. His name is Tim D. on the MIE (Mavica Information Exchange) site. Here is a link to the main board where you can track him down.
