Do you think we're going to see a lot of eagles? ;)

No, I'm thinking lots of flags, the Statue of Liberty, that sort of thing. I think that's why they didn't do it til after July 4th. I for one, love the out of the box type entries, but I think I'm in the minority.

:~(

when i think of independence, i picture something or someone with limited ability able to overcome their limitations. Like a blind man crossing the street or a bird with a broken wing catching a fish.

I have a question. I know what basic editing is, but what is basic rules mean?

One thing to remember is that not everyone sees independence in the same way. So remember who the audience is.

What might be seen as a national symbol of independence to those in one country. May be seen by others, as just a blooming big green statue on a little island.

etc. etc. etc.

I think Ive come up with a pretty unique take on "Independence".
Hope it doesnt offend people though ;)

Too bad my suggestion for this challenge's "Extra Rules" weren't implimented:
anyone who posts to a forum thread discussing the meaning of the topic is ineligible.

I think it will be a politician challenge. I´m not gonna to submit any flags or eagles or something like that. I respect everybody who submit it, but I prefer won´t participate, so I´m gonna put my brain to work for looking for a good pic without politician elements.

I don't think it is broad, it is just a difficult concept to communicate through imagery. I expect a lot of photos with a very weak link to independence.

And I predict the winning shot will have strong link to independence.

I have a great pic but I figured people would say "how is this relating to Independence, " so I just put it in my portfolio. It is my son with the rain coming down all over his face. I told him not to go outside, but he did it anyway, so I guess that's "Stubborn." LOL

Oh thanks. I forgot how to put it as a thumbnail. He was having so much fun. When the rain stopped, he just continued with the sprinkler!

I liked the close up.

Oh good; I'm glad someone clarified what the N/A meant. I just figured I wasn't qualified to enter this challenge (but was afraid to ask).

I got one i love. I am thinking ribbon contender...but then i sober up. Seriously, I think it will do well UNLESS the processing i did to it turns people off (possible) or the voters do the typical 'i see no connection to the challenge' and vote 1,2,3.

It should be interesting to see how it is interpreted by the entrants and the voters.

So true, eagles and flags are not symbols of independence for me personally, because I'm not an American.
Independence can mean a lot of things and doesn't have to be seen only in the light of politics.

Would somebody who understands the little yellow flag attached to this challenge please explain what the Basic Rules are. I have waited three days "depending" on someone giving me an explanation but to no avail. Please, someone, grant me "Independence" from this difficulty.

Basic editing rules are HERE!

Right, beagleboy, but why is there a flag? The other basic challenges don't have one. I was curious about that as well.

Because it's a member only challenge. Usually, we have access to Advanced editing rules for member only challenges. This time we are restricted to using basic editing rules. Simple. :)

I think the reason for the flag was it was a members challenges and generally member challenges were advanced editing. They wanted to bring emphasis that it was a members challenge but with basic editing. So not a normal thing, even though basic editing is.

Thank you to everybody for the explanation of why the Yellow flag is necessary to tell me that Extra Rules means Basic editing when that has already been specified in the challenge announcment. How silly of me not to understand such a simple matter so logically presented!!!
