I am curious, no axe to grind here, but why was one of these and not the other DQ'd from the Macro challenge?

not sure, but i think it's because one is just a straight forward shot of a bill...where the "dead president" shot is framed in a way that makes it look like it could be something else...if "dead president" weren't shot so up close, i bet it would have been DQ'd as well. |

There was a thread about this. AFAIK the difference lies in the narrow DOF in 'Dead President' which adds an artistic element to the bill.

There was a thread already about this that I think clearly explains it. Basically, Dead President has some DOF and angle and the other didn't. |

Literal representations of existing artworks, including your own, are not permitted. Please review the challenge submission rules.
I think the money shot that was dq was a literal representitive of money and in 'dead president' is not a literal representative of money but used as a abstact...
uhh I think |

When we judge whether something is a "literal representation", we look at how much creative interpretation took place. In this case, the consensus was that "dead president" fell on the acceptable side of the line, and the other one fell on the opposite side. I personally felt the other one was acceptable as well, but the majority felt otherwise.
