| I am looking at B&H and seeing that some filters are designated for wide angle. If i am looking for a UV filter for a 12-24 tokina, can i use a regular uv filter or does it have to be especially for wide angle? and what is the difference? |

A lot of it has to do with the angle of view of the lens. With ultra wide angle lenses a filter can actually cause vignetting. The ones that are designated for wideangle are usually the slim filters.

Slim filters are thinner to reduce the chance of vingetting. The Tokina does not need it. I use a regulare UV filter without any problems. You may want to consider a slim circular polarizer as my regular thickness polarizer causes vingetting at 12 mm b/c the thread ring is thicker than the UV filter's. If you get a thin filter, the thread ring is not deep enough to put the plastic lens cover over the lens though.

| Normally the get rid of the threads in front ( to mount another filter in front ) to make the filter slim and not block the wide-angle view. |
