I started a thread about "shooting blind" and now I have a related hardware question.

Is there a small, pocket sized monitor or pda that can be plugged into my video out connector?

Something to help with my "shooting blind" so that I am not blind anymore?

I believe there's something you can attach to the viewfinder. There was a thread about this a while back.

at one time I connected a small pocket TV similar to this //www.fixup.net/tips/ptv/ptv.htm CASIT TV-880. It worked but the clarity was not that good, just doesn't have the resolution. I did it in hopes that I could set up shots on that instead of killing my batteries using the LCD, now that I have battery packs I don't worry about it so much. Anything that accepts line in video should work.

Good luck

edited to add...even this would probably work but not sure about power supply in the field... //www.ubid.com/actn/opn/getpage.asp?AuctionId=800338170

That would be ZigView. There was an article about it on DPR

It's not like the world is going to end, if i don't....

no -- I did put a smiley at the end of my statement. That box seems to become unticked on a regular basis.

Because the 300d is an SLR The tv out will only show you the "after the fact" and not the actual image while your composing and I am not sure that the video shows the temporary tumbnail following the shot as the lcd display does.

So, does the Zigview lcd let me adjust my comp on the fly?

Can I have the Zigview attached to an extension of a 6' cable?

I have a mini tv, and will experiment with it while I find more answers.

thats a cool device...I didn't know there was anything like that. looks like you MUST have it on the eyepiece right, and you see on the screen through the lens? A good idea.

I can see the "idea" behind a thing from zigview but I don't understand when and how it can be of any use. if the intent is to use it for low angles then a angle eye-piece would be a better choice.

I think they both have their purposes. With the angled eye piece you still have to have your eye in the eye cup. With the mini viewer it serves the same purpose as the LCD on a P & S camera or am I missing something.

£115 is about what is USD?

Yes I believe it does work in real time... I don't think it would be nearly as good as looking through the viewfinder though. I didn't buy an SLR to look at the lcd screen to compose, and it's only useful 5% of the time.

I am interested in about 5% of the pix I shoot using this hardware.

I am not getting low to the ground, I am getting high in the air short of using a ladder. My monopod is the height extendor, now I need a better way to produce the composition I am after while my pole is above me.

the "main" clientele for this tool is "news scrum" shooters who have to place the camera over their heads to get the shot, I actualy had a discussion with a guy that owns one and he says that it's "great" to see if the person you want to shoot is in the line of sight but that the camera must be in a generally "auto" mode as even the focus is impossible to tell.

My F828 is for sale if youre interested. The whole body rotates seperate to the lens, and it's a digicam, so you can shoot using the nice big lcd. :-)
