This mushroom, which is really quite beautiful, suddenly appeared under an oak tree in my yard a few days ago...I love the coral color, but I can't find anything like it in my field guide..anyone have any ideas..can I eat it? (just kidding!) It's about a foot across in diameter

It's hard to tell from the coloring but it reminds me of a Lobster Mushroom.

Brain fungus is yellow and usually no larger than 8 cm across. Well, pretty sure anyway.

This baby is big! bigger every day, much larger than my brain! the mushroom closest in my field guide is a Cauliflower mushroom, but those only occur on the west coast of the US, not the east coast.
