Hi all,

I'd like to spread the word about C-ing Magazine. C-ing is a magazine which will launch this fall in order to provide a new venue for Canadian Photojournalism.

I'm not in any way involved with this project directly except that I'm a big advocate of anything that raises the bar for photojournalism in Canada. We've had some great ones come from Canada and the up-and-comers should be watched closely (I hope that I'm in that group!) over the years.

Here's the link, read for yourself...I believe there's an offer for a free copy of the launch issue to whet your appetite.

Thanks for sharing...

Looks like a very interesting magazine and I'm personally happy to see more Canadian content magazines spring up like this. I can not wait to see the launch issue.

Thanks

Thanks for the mention here Mike, I appreciate you ‘spreading the word.’
We̢۪re pretty excited about C-ing Magazine and the potential we see in it. As a news photographer for the past 15 years I̢۪ve been looking for a venue for more in-depth work than newspapers or traditional magazines have typically run, so we finally decided to create the venue.
The photojournalist community is really on board with us, and quality content is proving to be not a problem. The hurdles now include finding a good readership base and getting advertisers on board. Both serious chicken and egg issues.
Thanks to those who already signed up for their launch issues! For those that like the concept and want to help us succeed ... tell all your friends and post on other forums for us!
Cheers,

Signed up and anxiously waiting for that launch issue... spreading the word ... it's been getting done and will be.

Thanks for putting what looks like a very interesting magazine into our hands (well soon enough anyways).

Glad to do it! The launch issue is well under way, and we are really pleased with the way it is coming together. The quality of work, and the space we are able to give it is truly a pleasure for us.
If you have either subscribed or signed up for the launch issue you can expect to see it around the first week of September ... we're going to press in Mid August, and should hit Canada Post by the 19th. Cutoff for signing up for the launch issue is August 10th ... so if you want to get your copy, don't delay!

Just a quick reminder that the cutoff for making the Launch issue mailing list is this Friday. If you subscribe now you will get a full year's worth in addition to the Launch issue being guaranteed to your door!

For those of you that missed the opportunity to sign up for the launch issue of C-ing, I feel bad for you.

I just got mine today, and "Wow!"

I'm proud of the body of work in this issue from fellow Canadians and can't wait for future issues (I will be subscribing with no reservations).

I was crossing my fingers that my photo for the Canada Day project would be chosen for inclusion in the launch issue but it wasn't in there...but the photos that are in there are great so I couldn't be happier!

do the stories and photos have to be about canada or just the photographer?

Just the photographer...this issue leads off with a beautiful story from Indonesia (after the tsunami) by Terry Asma, it had a photo story by Menno Meijer on ballet in Belarus, photos from a Guatamalan zoo by Manuel Salazar, fantastic photos of resettlement centre for refugees ("The First 20 Days") by Colleen Hughes, excerpts from a book about women in medicine with photos by Ted Grant/Sandy Carter (text: Judith Finlyson) and a story about The Day of the Dead in Mexico by Brennan O'Connor.

Beautiful stuff from all over the world from some very talented Canadians...
