Occassionally I want to "take" a photo from my computer that I'm trying to replicate in some way (model poses, camera angles, lighting). I've been printing the inspiration photos out and sticking them in my camera bag - then I had this great idea.

Why not just put the photo on my CF card and I can look at it on my camera whenever I want.

Ever tried that? I can't get it to work. I put the card back in the camera, and the camera tells me that there is no data on the card. I've resized the photos to 3008x2000, saved them in JPEG, put them in the same folder as other photos I took with the D70 - even tried naming with the same naming as the D70 - and nothing shows up.

Anybody who has done this successfully? I'd like to know how you did it!

Thanks in advance,

Not having a D70 I may be way off base...

How are you transferring the pictures onto the CF card? With the card in a card reader? or in the camera?

What software are you using? windows? Camera software?

You probably have to use the software that came with the camera and have the camera connected to the computer to achieve the transfer properly.

It could be that the camera will not recognize the files without original exif info. When you use Nikon Capture on a photo and load it back to the camera it will not be recognized as well.

I agree, it probably has to read the exif, otherwise, it classifies the data as some other binary data such as a program or some sort of other file -- like today, I just bought a new CF card -- it comes with the software on the card -- the camera probably won't recognize it though. Just like there's some sort of identifier for an upgrade in software, etc.

One thing to do for sure is to make a new folder on your CF card IN CAMERA, first. That way you can switch to that folder IN CAMERA to look at the shot.
You could try taking an "old shot" fresh out of the camera and save it (or open it straight from the card reader)...then open it in your editor. Open the shot you want to put in place of it. Resize it to the same pixel size. Now with the move tool on...shift drag it to the "old shot." Flatten (this may be a problem with the others-if layered) image. Save the file. Then (can save to CF if in card reader) drag it back into the folder you want.
Worth a shot...should have all the same info from the "old shot" but YOUR pic in place.
WARNING: this is not advisable for Challenge photos!!
I would try it on mine....but it is in for service at this time (DAMMIT!) for the blinking green light of death!!! and at the 13th month of the Warranty (ie: expired!)
Good luck, let me know if it works.
