A few years back I swore that I'd never go digital. Then I got my little dinky Fuji camera. Then I found this site. Now I want to go all out. The thing is I've been a hard core Pentax user since I was 14, when my dad handed me a K1000. I've got 7 lenses and unless I want to go out and buy all new gear, it looks like I'll go with the Pentax *ist DS. Can anyone give me some feedback on it? Thanks.

I believe Artyste and faidoi love theirs - if they don't respond to this thread, you might want to get in touch with them and ask about their experience. I'm sure there is a wealth of information on it around the internet as well.

YAY More Pentax useres!! heh. I don't have the ist yet, but I'm working on it, I DO have an old K1000 though, and I'm starting to use it almost more than my digital. Guess I need to start saving more huh?

The Pentax *ist DL has just been released here in Japan. It has a larger screen and is a little bit lighter.

hrmm, after reading that review, you might want to think about selling your stuff and either looking into Nikon or Canon -- d50 or 350xt -- or 20d / d70 if you can afford that.

Pentax makes fine cameras, including their DSLRs. But you'd hardly know it here in this bastion of Canon brand loyalists. Look at it this way, you stable of lenses gives you a head start on building a digital system. You probably have other accessories that will carry over too, like a flash attachment.

I still have my K1000 (circa 1978), as well as ZX-M, and ZX-30. I went digital in February, buying the *ist-DS. With the exception of one lense I purchased specifically for the DS, all the lenses are interchangeable between the bodies.

I purchased the DS because of the ability to use all of my existing lenses and accessories. I have been very satisfied with the quality of the camera.

There is a very active pentax forum at dpreview.com if you want to get more input from others.

Yeah, I've been looking at profiles of the *ist users. Trying to get an idea of what it can do. I'm pretty much set on getting one (lots of money invested in Pentax. Can't change now) and just wanted to know what people, who use it, thought.

I did notice loads of Canon users.

northrop3, thanks for the dpreview.com site. I'll be spending some time there.
