uhm...this is strange and puzzling.

On my rebel, when I shot RAW, when I opened it in photoshop, I got a nice little screen where I could adjust anything, including stuff like vignetting, sharpness, saturation, EV, and everything else.

When I open my d70's .NEF file, I just get exposure compensation and white balance...is there something I have to download or something to get that other screen?

Thanks...I'm using PS CS btw.

The D70 doesn't seem to be supported by Adobe Camera Raw before v2.2. Might that be the problem?

Could be, but I'm running version 3.1

I think something got screwed up somewhere when I installed my Nikon software -- like it overwrote how that file should open.

I'm thinking I may have to reinstall camera raw plugin...gonna try changing file associations first...this is scary.

Oh man...this is so bogus.

I had the camera raw plugin for CS downloaded and installed. I downloaded someone's raw file from a d70 before and it worked properly...now adobe's site is saying I can't install it on CS, only CS2. Talk about a marketing scheme.

Anyone know where I can download raw plugin to reinstall for CS anymore?

Found this on Adobe's support, but it sounds like a different problem to me:

Oh well, maybe I'm wrong. Apparently my version is only 2.3 that I have installed and maybe it was a d100 raw file before.

Well, that solves that -- I'm never shooting in RAW mode again.

I have the 2.4 plugin that I can send you. Just need an email to send it to.

all you have to do is delete the nikon raw plug in, or move it outside the adobe plug in folder, then the adobe plug in will kick, the nikon just overrules it in the same folder for some reason but its an easy fix. no worries.

It doesn't seem to work either way I do it. The d70 is not listed in the plugin that I have anyway. I think I'm stuck with having to use Nikon Capture.

here's what I was testing though...pretty impressive I must say -- composition aside, of course...

I'm going to try and move that plugin and see what happens.

Like others have recommended to me, I'll recommend to you. Try Pixmantec's RawShooter Essentials. It's easy to use and free. The results have generally looked better than what I ever got in ACR anyways (whether this is a result of the program or me just approaching the image differently I don't know). RAW format has too many benefits to just stop shooting because Adobe won't let you open the file.

You are my HERO!!! That worked. I knew I opened one before. I guess it over-wrote that when I installed all my Nikon software. CS beats the crap outta Nikon Capture anyway.

Thanks all for your concern and help!

If you have 2.3, you might want to look at whether it's worth installing 2.4, which is the last supported version in CS. It should still be available on the Adobe website.
