I am using Adobe Photoshop 5.5. Can I combine two photographs into one, e.g. can I use the sky/clouds from one photograph, and the rest of the landscape from the other photograph.
(This is not in reference to challenge submissions, as I know it is not permitted in challenges.)

yes.
if your version works like 7.0 - open two images. on one Crtl A or select all, then just drag and drop that on the other image or go to that image and PAste as a new layer. it will completely obscure the lower layer - you then can do a quick mask (on the layers palette the square box with a circle in it) - you will see on the layers pallete a white box appear next to the layer thumbnail box. click a paintbush, black and then the new mask box in the layer pallette. go paint on the picture -where you paint \black\ the layer underneath will show thru. paint white to hide it and show the top layer.

Or you can cut your subject out and place him on a layer above an existing picture and tweak the size and position and then work on the areas that need to blend in...
