I need to buy a scanner that works well but does not cost a fortune. What is a good one. I will probally get it of ebay, but there is so many I dont know which to choose.

I have a canoscan N1220U. Very small, no ac plug, very flat too.

Of course I bought mine when it was $200 now it is probably real cheap

| I have the Epson 3170 and am more than satisfied with the quality of both print and negative scan. I think I paid around $170 new. There are a few of them on eBay for less than that. Here's one. |

Will this scanner produce a good printable image?

Listed on the ebay page:
1200 x 2400 dpi resolution
42-bit for over 4 trillion possible colors
Maximum Resolution: 9600 x 9600 dpi
I have never scanned an image and printed it because I have never had a high quality printer. So I wouldn't know. I can scan an image for you tonight at whatever resolution you want and e-mail it to you. If that will help. |

Are you planning to scan prints or negatives/slides? If the latter, be careful choosing a flatbed scanner as they are not nearly as good as a dedicated negative/slide scanner.

I've got a slimline Canon canoscan lide 30. You could probably pick it up for $20 or so 2nd hand. It comes with a gizmo so it can stand on it's long side for neat desktop storage. I've scanned some photos with it and the quality is perfect.
Mini Spec:
1 cable for USB & power
Up to 1200 x 2400 dpi resolution
Z-Lid expansion top
48-bit for over 281 trillion possible colors
Scan, copy or e-mail photos at the touch of a button
(Ed. Pretty much the same as rex is talking about :D)
