About a month ago while working in Photoshop 7, I editted this photo...
into this...
...then I forgot what I did. Honestly, I forgot. I think the editting had something to do with changing a layer's/effect's blending options, but I've been messing around with that a lot lately, so I could be wrong. I do know for sure that I didn't use any spot editing, so whatever I did, I did to the entire image.
I really like the effect I somehow achieved, and any possible insight that any of you may have as to what I did do would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks in advance!
ps - I got close to the effect by using an Invert adjustment layer set to Hue with the blue channel left out...that was kinda cool, too.

looks like you desaturated every color but red. or something close to that.

With all of the Photoshop gurus on this site, no one has any ideas?
Hey, if I did it, it can't be that advanced.

surely looks like a selective deaturation job and not a play with layers.

Yes, it does look just like that, but after playing with Hue/Sat ad nauseum, I have not achieved anything that is close. I think it was just a fluke, but if by some devine miracle I stumble on it again, I'll be paying attention this time. |

You can turn on the concise or detailed History log under your General preferences. And write it to a file of your choice or into the actual metadata, or both. Putting it in metadata can make the file size bigger, but if you don't care....
Using the text file works great....try the different settings, and edit a pic the same way, then open up the txt file and see what you prefer. I try to remember to save out the file to a new name every month, then erase the original, just to make it easier to go through later if needed. Not as much crap to try to look through, but then again one GIANT file you can search all at once for a file name etc. Try it.

Did you by chance change the Layer Blending to something other than normal? Soft Light maybe?

I may have, but I'm not too sure...I've been messing with those a lot lately, and could be confused. Honestly, I'm not too sure what they all do, so I just play around looking for something I like. Therein lies the problem, since often it is difficult to repeat 'playing around.' Hence, thank you very much for the tip about saving the history to a text file.
As I've tried to mimic what I did originally, I have taken notes, made a few new actions, etc, so all in all, I'm learning. Basically, I would like to take a number of the shots from the trip that generated the above photo and process them in a similar fashion - you know, make a series or a set or something. Since I really like the above results, I'm trying to figure out just what I did.
I know if you save a photo in PSD format, it saves the layers as well...is there a way to save a photo with the history still intact also? |

The only way to save the history is to turn tracking on and then all the steps are saved to a text file.

looks like a hard light or vivid light on the red channel. 'apply image' anyone?

This is MY version from your green original. If you want the PSD file to see how I did it, let me know and I'll email it to you.

Like I said in my original post at the top of the thread, the closest I've come is using an Invert adjustment layer, set blending to Hue and only performed the adjustment on the red and green channels (all of that is under Blending Options for the layer). That works great, but it's not what I had before, and it really makes any red in the original photo look funny...and if you have a person in the photo, they then look like the incredible hulk. |

That's cool...I'd like to see the original (well, your original, anyway) if possible.
Thanks... |

Not that I know of...but to be honest I probably know about 1% of what I could know about Photoshop, no matter the version.
Thanks to everyone for your help. So...any other insight? |
