Here's another portrait attempt of my friend's daughter...

The left side seems a bit hot. The catch lights are in a great spot in the eyes. The only think I would do is get a thin translucent material to act as a scrim and place it between your subject and with window. That will take the lines out of the catch lights and soften the light. |

Amy, what lens did you use to shoot these? If it was relatively wide angle they may have looked better with a more telephoto lens stood further away.

Nice images, good composition, focus, DOF.
This is a case in which shooting RAW will really open up possibilities. The RAW conversion will allow separate control over both the highlight and brightness/midtones to help get rid of some of that "hotness" that was mentioned.

i used the kit lens with the rebel - and i was sitting on the couch with her... the lighting was just the window and sunlite ...
thanks for the suggestions .. overall i am fairly happy with them
