No offense taken - we do what we can, when we can. We dont let them think they can affect our way of life, our daily routine, if they do that then they have won a victory. Having spent 2 years in Northern Ireland in the 70's I understand what these bastards thrive on.

There are some very thoughtful people out there/here - kind thoughts gratefully received by all Londoners for sure.
Just heard my friend's OK. Glad to see other Londoners are still kicking too - s'pose we'll have to delay that beer again Ed!
Edit: quite right Mike

Chris reporting in as safe!
I work near King's cross and some of my colleagues actually witnessed the bus explosion on the way in to work!!
Fortunately I got diverted from my usual route this morning and went to our Waterloo offices. Which is where I am currently stuck.
Hope all the UK guys are OK.

As someone who travels by an underground metro system, my heart goes out to everyone impacted by this attack. As I listen to the stories on the news, I can share the panic and fear. I'm glad to know that so many of you are okay. I'm saddened to realize that at least 2 families in London are without loved ones.
God bless you all.

Having lived and worked in London for over 10 years, I remember the time when I was often evacuated from work premises and underground stations because of IRA bomb threats. It was something one accepted was a part of life in London. In recent years, the terrorist threat has become more real again, with other groups moving in where the IRA has faded away.
If we let this affect the way we lived our lives and our positive attitude to life these people would indeed be gaining a victory even from their threatened actions let alone from the ones they actually take.
For most of us, that's not acceptable.
So, as Mike says, we don't let them think they are affecting our way of life, our routine, our outlook on life.
As to whether there more that can be done, I can't imagine that there's anyone sitting around with a perfect solution to all this crap and just not bothering to implement it... it's just that there aren't any easy solutions.
It's just a shitty situation, very complex too.
Anyway, my phone has been ringing all morning with calls from around the UK and even internet friends from the USA.
Londoners do appreciate the support and sympathy you're all showing. Thank you.

From what I can see of reports on the Internet, The terrorists have utterly failed.
In most of London, people are doing exactly what you said, Mike. Going about their business. Busses are running again, people are calm (albeit miffed at the delays), and the ones who'se work are totally disrupted, are planning on giong to the pub.
I Commend and congratulate all of you. |

Pictures from Aldgate underground station that I would rather have not had the opportunity to take. Uncropped, resized quickly (limited facilities at work).

Arancha
The word "casualties" seems to be being used for people who have sustained injuries and there are said to be about 100 or more of these, most injuries have been relatively minor with a few injured more severely.
Fatalities have been minimal - I believe there have been a handful of these - passengers on the bus that exploded in Tavistock Square.
I too am surprised at the continuous use of the word "casualty" when referring clearly to those injured not killed.

Sorry you had to experience that, Matthew. Your first picture is exactly the scene I first saw on the BBC when I first heard the news at about 10 am this morning and was shown repeatedly, along with the roads near the other stations, and later, the exploded bus.
Sigh.

You might want to submit them to the BBC news for personal accounts.

I was standing next to the BBC cameraman. It is extremely close to my house, and I stood next to the press guys (very few there to start with) and took a few pics. The police then told me and the press to stay where we were, while everyone else were moved back (my 300mm lens acted as a press pass). After a few minutes, the police moved everyone (press included) away from the scene.
Evening Standard syndication team has sent these and a few others out to the rest of the world: may need help in spotting these and other pics in the international press if it happens (chance of commercial exploitation again, not wished for, but I am not going to pass it up).

Matt-Glad you're ok. I just searched the thread to see if you'd signed in before any worry set in, knowing you work relatively close to Kings Cross.
It's very strange having been all around that entire area just under a week ago and my heart goes out to all of you.

Imagineer, not to defend these terrorist at all or belittle what has happened, but just last week I watched a report with a gentleman (I can't remember who he was) who has been researching the last 20 years worth of terrorist attacks in different parts of the world and has found that the vast majority of them are NOT God related at all. (Being a believer of Jesus, I cannot fathom anyone believing in something or someone that would tell you to kill)
Many (myself included) believe(d) that they do this for a ticket into their "heaven" when it fact it is almost always just a case of getting even for that persons/countries influence on what they consider theirs. Whether it be land or political beliefs, they don't want others involved in it and will die to defend that.
I wish I could remember who he was and the book he wrote about it.
Living in a "free" country I guess I take for granted the fact that if someone takes what is mine I can usually go to the police and get my justice and don't have to blow them up for my revenge.

I'm sorry to say but if you get involved in these things it will always come back to bite you on the bum! Here in Australia it is only a matter of time before we get hit! Stay out of other countries and let them run their own lives! We all should never have gotten involved! |
