Hello,
I hope you might take the time to comment on a photo. I broke a golden rule and took the shot with the noontime sun (well, maybe more like 1pm) creating some really stark shadows. It's not a pretty pic, but I liked the overall effect:

Nothing wrong with noon time sun. Usually gives a great feeling of textures.

The photo has great textures on the wall. Overall good, but I feel like it is missing something. Nothing in it really draws my eyes. |

Well, I'll be the first to admit it is very barren. I think that was some of the appeal for me, hence the name. But you are right - probably needs a good looking cloud. |

Part of the drawback of the noontime sun is also the lack of shadows it creates in certain shots (ie: landscapes), creating a flat look and washed out colors. Since the shadows remain and you've desaturated the color, this obviously wasn't quite as much of a problem here :). But you're right, the harsh shadows can also be unattractive on certain subjects - although they work positively here. Looks like a face to me

All rules are subject to be broken. Hard shadows have their place and this image exploits them to full advantage. It is the end result that we are concerned. This image, while it has a stark look, it helps bring out a texture value that would be lost under different lighting. I like it very much. |

I too have had some reasonable results/effects looking into full sun. I think the B/W makes it more acceptable, I like it !
