I am just curious where people look for used equipment? Specifically, where do you look for lenses?

Ebay
I only deal with people who:
- have had multiple sales and purchases
- have a very high approval rating - the closer to 100% the better. I never deal with anyone who has approval rating below 98.5%. That's my rule
- always specify that I want to test the lens when I receive it to make sure it works without a hitch with the agreement that the lens can be returned to the seller if I deem it not to be working properly. Shipping at my own expense. You'd be surprised how many people agree to this.
- accept payment through Paypal.
I NEVER buy from someone who states "all sales final" on high end lenses. This a red flag telling you that the seller is trying to unload a crappy or defective lens for maximum $$$.
Also, read the adds VERY carefully. These purchases are in fact contracts, so make sure you a$$ is covered.

almost nothing beats the //www.fredmiranda.com forums, currently bought ~$2600 of stuff there and sold ~$450.

I bought two lenses from them a couple of months ago. Got them in less than a week, exactly as represented, with a good return policy if I needed it. Saved a few hundred $$ (which is why I could afford 2) and am already planning on buying more.

I second FredMiranda.com as the best place for getting used lens. You can usually find just about anything there in the buy/sell forum and the people there are awesome. Beware though, it is as addictive as DPC, and once you start going there you'll find yourself spending lots of $$$.
