I have just finished editing my first image with Photoshop CS2 and am now ready to to save to web. I am just wondering if any of the PS gurus have preferences between bicubic, bicubic smoother or bicubic sharper when saving to web. If so, why? Thanks.

I prefer to do my own smoothing and sharpening. I use bicubic.

Bicubic, bicubic smoother or bicubic sharper is a function of image resizing before saving for web. The bicubic sharper seems to be doing a much better job in preserving details in my opinion.

I downsize bcubic then sharpen by hand. Prefer the control.

I concur with Row-Bear. I find that sometimes bicubic sharper leaves me with something that is less than optimal. So I use bicubic, then sharpen as required, normally in a couple steps.
