Over the weekend my husband did a computer cleanup.... which means he went through and deleted files and programs that we no longer use. Somehow, even though he asked me.... we accidently deleted the program I was using to open and view RAW files on Adobe. I don't even remember which one it was! I have been doing for over a year now, and I don't remember what I was using! I have a wedding that I am editing and I have a tight deadline.... I only have a few more pics to finish up! Ugh!
All I know, is that I got the program for free. If anyone could recommend one, that would be great and I would love you forever! I promise!

Is this one really good? And can it be plugged into Adobe?

It's getting rave reviews but it's a stand alone.
What version of Photoshop do you have? If it's CS or CS2 then you can download the plugin from the Adobe website.

How is RSE vs. C1? I currently use Photoshop for RAW conversions, but was wondering about other applications as well. Price differences aside - what is everyone's opinion (that has tried both)?

I've tried RSE, and I was more comfortable with Adobe Camera RAW in CS2. Not a bad relection on RSE, the workflow in ACR just fits me better. From a poerformance standpoint, RSE is pretty good. I've seen opinions that the colors are better from C1 and/or ACR, but I think this is splitting hairs. For free, it is a great tool.

Interesting - I've heard that the workflow in C1 is excellent.. and I tried searching for some RSE reviews and heard good things about that too. The annoying thing is that people will say that C1 is better for certain types of photos, ACR for certain, RSE for certain. I just want 1 RAW converter!! I do feel like I spend way too much time editing my photos in ACR though, so I might try one of these others to see if I can speed myself up a bit.

Another free RAW file developer/converter is from SilkyPix. They just came out with the English version and many people at the Olympus forum at DPReview are very impressed with it.

I worked on some graduation pictures yesterday with both RawShooter Essentials and CaptureOne software (interestingly, I read somewhere that the developers of RSE are people who branched off from/left the C1 project).
Both had their merits, and provided a bit faster of a workflow for me than the Adobe Camera Raw (the main thing for me is the ability to batch process - letting the program process/save images while I move on to the next one). Granted, it'll take some time to get used to their menus (I'm so used to having all the features I use in one menu in ACR), but I think it'll pay off in the long run.
C1 provides a bit more versatility/control over the processing, but RSE provides some nifty presets (Flat, Indoor Light/Medium/Strong, Outdoor Light/Medium/Strong) that helped expedite the process a lot for me. The colors seemed a bit bolder and with less noise in both, when compared to ACR, but perhaps I had converted them differently. Either way, I liked my results with these two better and will probably be using C1 for the 30-day trial and then RSE in the future (since it's free).
