I was out taking picutres of the ocean and somehow water leaked into my camera. It won't turn on anymore.I am thinking of buying a new camera off ebay.I really know very little about cameras and settings.I was thinking about buying the powershot a95 to learn how to use settings and then progress to a better camera or should i just by the s70 and learn from that camera?I am also going to be taking a digital photography class in the fall.

Batteries out, leave to a dry place for a week and maybe throw in a couple of those silica gel packs. If that doesnt work, call the warranty folk, and say, that the camera stopped working for no apparent reason

If you're going to be taking a class, definitely be sure you get a camera that has the option for fully manual control of settings. That will be very important in class. You'll most likely be asked to do things that will depend on you being in complete control of the camera.
Both the A95 and S70 are decent choices in this regard, I don't see big differences in the two with the exception of ergonomics (completely different outline, which works best for you is a matter of personal taste) and the fact that the S70 has RAW output, if that makes a difference to you.

If the water was salt water, it will leave corrosive deposits. Inspection up on return for warranty work will easily reveal this. In any case, the battery voltage has likely already done irreversible damage.

Thanks for the replies and i was thinking about sending it in to have it fixed but its just an olympus d540 camera.i think to be repaired it would cost more then the camera. It was saltwater and when i opened it up that night it already had some corrosive deposits on some parts of the chip.
