Here are two more good ones - again, at the college. Even though I was the second shooter, I will be giving the B&G a disk - both web and printables. I figure to give them an 8x10 or two..with my name on them, on the front...I want some referrals and don't want the other photog to get 'credit' for my work. Anyway...

Here you can see the real colors of the bridesmaids dresses and the wedding gown. Now go back and look at the church shots...if you wanna see fugly pics, I can post an unprocessed version of the church pics.

Have you shown the bride yet? Is she happy with the results?

You might have to convert them all to BW...there's something up with the coloring in a lot of them.

You could try to white balance them since they are raw or you could use the magenta slider in hue/sat to try and desat some of the purpleness. Give me a PM or email if you want me to try on one of them too. :)

Over at fred miranda i got two bits of useful info ...

Process each image for several differnt WB issues and then useing PS and layers merge the results.

next time...try gels over the flash unit. One can make custom gels..it was a long and complicated process requiring access to the lighting conditions for test pics, and a photo printer with acetate.

The bride is on her honeymoon for a week...I was allowed to do this more as a favor to me thatn here. I planned to give them a CD with net worthy jpgs and printable JPGs. THen it occurred to me last night...I need to work this for all i can...I willbe giving them an 8X10 framed pic, with my name on it, of .

The other photog is giving proofs only..so mine will be displayed for all to see! And I figre to provide 5x7 prints in those folding mattes - one for each bridesmaid (of the bridesmaid/groomsman and the happy couple or group shots maybe). Soe will be b&w, some selectively colored -things the film photog could not do. The cost t ome will be small ($40-50 i think) but I will be the one that gets the referrals!!

It's a pretty portrait of a happy looking couple. Good luck with everything, I know you were stressed so congrats on surviving unscathed!

This wedding stuff is more complicated than it first appears.

I did step 1 in processing - I did the RAW conversions and have 152 TIFF images to run thru PS now. Since I was allowed to shoot for my portfolio, I figure to give the B&G a ncie 8x10 or 3 (parents...) and maybe some 5x7s for the groomsman/bridesmaids. Beyond that, I figured on a CD of images - printable and emailable in size...so here is the next dilemma...

I want to be sure when they print at walmart etc they get what they expect, what I want them to get - a nice quality pic, the first time. So that brings up the question of apsect ratio - a 4x6 will not enlarge to an 8x10...2 inches will be hacked by the walmart weenies - 1 inch from the top and i inch from the bottom (expereince speaking here).

5x7 is different yet...so each size requires a different crop - I can of course process weach pic 3 times, or pick those that will be reproduceable at the different sizes...

But i should not have to re-invent the wheel here! What do you all do in this situation? What do the online places like //www.collages.net/ and //www.eventpix.com/index_html.tml do about this?

Chris, I read up a lot on doing weddings...and specifically on the issue of our camera's 3:2 format and 8x10's. The advice I picked up was...compose very, very loosely.

If you make different folders and such on a disc, you're going to confuse them. The way walmart's thing works...is it pulls all the images right from the CD...no filenames are displayed, and you donot get to choose which folder.

I'd throw some 4x6's together, give them the 8x10's and if they want prints, have them tell you which ones...then go get them made yourself, and get reimbursed.

I do not know these follks, so getting reimbursed is iffy. Also, I don't want to be "Thanks for letting me shoot your wedding at the last minute for my portfolio, so i can go be rich and prosperous. I use digital, so i know my shots are better and more creative than what the film person got. Oh, and if you want prints, PAY ME SUCKER."

There is no easy answer, is there?

David - if you want to do weddings you MUST PRACTICE. Come on over and i'll show you my pics - the ones i shot versus the one's i'll show here...it is very eye opening when you actually see what you can and cannot do when the time comes. My expereince at the wedding was there is NO time to do anything but shoot or there is lots of time and nothing to do but wait for the next thing to shoot. My mind was working...i was chimping, looking around for things to shoot, checking (and changing)camera and flash settings, trying to remember all that stuff i read in the books and online, checking pics taken vs avaiable card space, batt life, etc. There is the technical part and the artistic part, and then more if you are the primary shooter. I barley did the technical part...the rest i'm saving for next time!
