Looking throught the viewvinder, I see this:
This does not appear on the captured images, so it must be part of the viewfinder optics, right, right.
I highlighted the culprit, sitting dead bang in the centre on the bottom of the pentaprism.
Now, do I:
A- Ignore it and hope it goes away by itself ?
B- Take the camera back for cleaning ? Does the warranty count, seeing as the problem was there from day 1?
C- Try to remove this, this abomination by myself, and how ?
Thanks

if you've just bought it, i'd demand an exchange/refund. |

Yes, out of principle I agree, but does this little spec of dirt justify the process, or is there another way? |

Is it inside the pentaprism, or on the outside?
If on the outside, I would just clean it myself.

It was on the outside :-)
Took a cotton bud, wrapped the end in the lens-cleaning cloth, and gently persuaded it to leave.
I feel much better now, (and releived). Thanks for the help :D |

ah yes if it's cleanable, do it yourself and save the hassle, if it means opening the thing up and risking further dust etc, then warranty job :) |

I had a huge speck on my d70 from the first shot. I exchanged it. If I got it there myself, it would be a different story.
I paid for the warranty where if you run it over with your car, you get a new one. So it was either give me a new one now or I'd go outside, run it over and bring it back in for you to give me a new one. Luckily, the girl was really nice and understanding. She, like me, did MLU and looked inside and didn't see anything -- so I was thinking there was a speck under the cover but on the CCD.
Yours seems like it's in the viewfinder somewhere. If you take your lens off and look inside on decent light, you'll probably be able to see it. I know on the D70, the mirror is sort of see-through if that makes sense...then if you look down, you see the AF sensor and if you look up, you see through the viewfinder.
But anyway, if it's distracting enough, I'd exchange it, but I even tried blowing in mine and everything first (with the mirrors in place) and blowing softly without them in place.
