Does anyone know if a Hoya R72 filter works well on an A2? Or does it have a problem like the Canon 20D which has an internal filter preventing decent IR shots....

Thanks.

I think that you can test it by pointing a tv remote at your camera and push any button and you should be able to see flashing.

Ok, I need the Dummies version here. I pointed a tv remote to both and nothing flashed on either one. (the 20D and Minolta A2)

I think that anything after the Dimage 7 will not work with an IR filter. I have the 7i and was disappointed that I couldn't use an IR filter on it. I gave my IR filter to my friend with the Dimage 7.

What internal filter on a Canon 20D will not let you shoot IR? I know several people who got a 20D to do IR. I was thinking of picking up some filters myself.

It has an internal IR low pass filter, as most late model cameras do now, to bring out colors better.

Just an update - I picked up a 49mm R72 filter for $30. Cheap enough to give it a try on the A2....crossing fingers!

Now I wish I hadn't sold my Olympus 3040 (sigh)

The most sensitive digital cameras for IR are:
olympus c2000/c2020/c2100
Nikon coolpix 950
Lots of info here.

You should be able to get a result with most cameras except you will need longer exposure times.
I even managed this with my sony ericsson k750 camera phone and r72 filter.
