Anyone ever seen a dog like this before?
The best I could make out from the owner who spoke French (I don't) was that he will not get much bigger than this and that it is a new breed I think ,any info would be great Thanks

First time I've seen anything like that if it was going to get bigger I'd say husky, but even husky puppies are bigger than that... maybe husky-chihuahua mix?

I believe that is the new breed used to pull the sleds in this years iditalittlerod 5k Sled Race, they also prefer Taco Bell to Ole' Roy dog food. ;)

He is cute

Jake is a Shiba Inu.

It does look a lot like a mix between the two. Whatever it is... what a georgeous pup!

I've seen mix of a dalmatian-chiuhahua, and it's not a small dog!
Huskies can have some rare pupies, depending on their antecedents.
I had a female husky. Her parents were pure white, with redish eyes, but she had a grey-black-white coating, one blue eye and the other one was brown. The first time she had puppies, she delivered 2 "regular" ones, 2 pure white ones with red eyes, and one which is called (at least in brazil) a mammoth husky. He's like twice the size of the other pupies, has a shorter nose, and is of a very dark grey coating, solid grey, like a wolf, but looks a lot stronger, something like a rotweiller. That one is incredibly big. But i've never seen such a small puppy as the one on the shots! That might be vert young, I'd say something like 40-45 days tops!

I think I have some shots of the puppies I mentioned above, but I'm not sure, it was back on 1994. If I find it I'll try and post for u guys

I have heard of miniature Huskies, although I have never seen one before.

Being a Husky owner myself (I have 2), I can't imagine that much energy, attitude, and hardheadedness packed into such a small package.

Just doing a quick search (google is your friend) it is most likely an Alaskan Klee Kai (Miniature Alaskan Husky). Obviously it is a mix of a few breeds to come out with what looks like a mini Husky.

Try a Shiba...
They can be evil

Check this out

Although this guy's review is rough... It is eerily accurate.
After a year of pain, my Shiba is finally settling down. If you get one, say goodbye to your:
Shoes
Crown Molding
Couch
Chairs
Anything made of plastic (especially pens & mechanical pencils)
Anything made of cotton
Anything made of atoms and electrons... ;)

I do love him to death though!
:)

Add to that....
they shed like crazy (brushed out an entire grocery bag of hair recently) I'm still laughing about the comment of them being "the canine version of Hiroshima" It's so true.
they are little escape artist -- so plan on a VERY secure yard
They generally are a one person dog. In our case it's my husband. Even thought she's been highly socialized -- I have to really watch her around anyone else.
they are stubborn as a mule but look damn cute doing it!
they really are insane. I swear Akai hear voices in her head telling her to do the bizarre thing she does.
Oh... Did koltrane mention they eat everything?
Our vet has a Shiba. Her comment has always been "They aren't for everyone" truer words were never spoken.

koltrane -- thank you so much for the link. I can hear my husband downstairs laughing hysterically!

Isn't that review scary? But totally true.

Interestingly, my Jake has not had the Hiroshima yet... I'm kind of getting worried.. it has been a year, and no extreme shedding.

Another interesting fact about mine is that he NEVER barks.
He yodels from time to time, but is generally dead silent.

Note to future owners:
If you cannot see nor hear your Shiba in the immediate vicinity, something very bad is happening to some material object you own or love.

Also, you might as well cozy up to nicknaming yourself 'beta', because your Shiba will accept nothing less than being alpha.

I need one too! My 2 dogs and a cat need a new little sister. I guess it's a good thing my husband tempers me some, or we would have a zoo at our house.

It took a few years for the major shedding -- maybe as they get older they get worse. Akai is 12 and this year has been the awful. I just don't understand where all that hair comes from. No matter how much you brush there is always more. The chewing does subside -- in fact that's how we got her. She chewed up the previous owners $200 Italian shoes among other things. Not a dog for a single working guy! It's been almost a year since she's chewed anything major -- like a hole in the fence.

She doesn't bark much but at the most random times and mostly at nothing. She'll be in the middle of the room and let out a short loud yap and then leave. It's those voices in her head I swear! Or, she's doing it just to watch everyone jump. They are evil like that.

As far as being the beta around the house -- that's her problem with me. NO ONE gets to be a bigger bitch around this house than I am and she just keeps pushing. ;-)
