Ok I order some prints on June 29 from DPC Prints. It ships yesterday to me. So I track the package this morning to see when I will get it.

Ship date: Jun 30, 2005
Estimated delivery date:Jul 6, 2005 by 4:30 pm

Arrived at FedEx Destination Location
Jul 1, 2005 8:00 am CARTERSVILLE GA

For anyone wondering I think DPC Prints uses a company in Atlanta so it doesn't take that long for me to get prints.

Either way it arrived in Cartersville, GA at 8 this morning. Cartersville is 5 minutes down the road from me and the only FedEx branch near me. So it is this branch that will deliver it to my house yet it is going to take them until Wednesday to get the prints to me. HMMMMMMM.

So I call FedEx.

James:"I am going right by there in about an hour I can pick them up and save you the trip."

Operator:"We are required to attempt one delivery before anyone can pick up a package. Sorry you have to wait until we attempt one delivery."

So I have to wait until July the 6th even though the prints are sitting in a warehouse 5 MINUTES down the road!!!!!!

What is up with that?

Fedex may have given the employess a long weekend off for the 4th. i also know that they add and extra day or two for delivery so be looking for it today or tuesday if its that close. u could try calling the actual warehouse. the # thats in the phone book is a routed customer service #. u were prob. talking to someone in montana:). or u could just drive right to the depot and request it yourself. u will have to have ID and proof of addy with u. hope ya get it soon(today)

I would print out the tracking info and drop by. Fed-x will be taking a long weekend, but I think that usually involves no pick-ups on Friday but still they deliver. The guys at the local depots are very helpful, give it a try.

FedEx policy is that the shipper gets what they paid for - if the shipper paid 5-7 day shipping, FedEx will NOT let it go (in my experience) at the 2nd through 4th day. It's just not economical for them - they get more money for 2 Day Air, so that's what they want you to buy.

It didn't go air...It was shipped from a company in Atlanta which is about 1 hour south of me.

Bear in mind that "arrived at FedEx destination location" means exactly what it says -- only that your package has arrived at that location, along with a big honking pile of OTHER packages, none of which are likely to be sorted yet at this point. The odds that someone is going to go through an unsorted trailer-load of packages to find your pictures is pretty slim.

Sorry,

My point is unless you got overnight shipping, they want you to buy the more expensive shipping. Even with FedEx Express there are so many levels:

FedEx First Overnight® 1 Day
FedEx Priority Overnight® 1 Day
FedEx Standard Overnight® 1 Day
FedEx 2Day® 4:30 PM 4 Days
FedEx Express Saver® 5 Days

So if you got Express Saver or even 2Day, you won't get it for up to 4 or 5 days, even if they have it in their warehouse after day 1.

Oh, and I'm not defending them. I ranted and raved at them about this policy, but this IS their policy and from a business perspective, I can understand it. From a common sense one, I can't.

I expected that outcome. Fedex is actually pretty helpful with this type of situation. Brown is another story. I've actually had a UPS driver deliver part of a shipment in the morning, then come back late in the afternoon and confess that everything was on the truck, but some of it was in the back and he didn't feel like digging through to get it all. On other occasions, I've had UPS deliver boxes soaking wet and crushed, complete with tire treads over them, and nonchalantly hand me the pad to sign as if nothing is wrong.

My favorite crazy shipment was Fedex, though... I ordered a 36" roll of semigloss plotter paper, and sometime during delivery someone opened the box and replaced the paper with a roll of roofing material. Huh?

Ooh... I take that back. My favorite was when a UPS driver climbed up the fire escape and left a package on our office roof during a torrential downpour. Just when you thought you'd seen everything...
