i took this photo yesterday with the macro challenge in mind but i didnt feel it was truly a macro photo. what do you think? i also decided not to enter it because i had another idea(one i hope is very unique and no its not a flower, bug,or water of any kind!)

i used my macro setting with a macro lens(wide angle attached at the time). i had the honeysuckle almost touching the lens.background is a small piece of pink silk(laying on a table) with just enough light to light my flower and the silk while leaving the true BG black.

i have since tried a different approach. i removed the wide angle lens and taped my 2x telephoto lens on backwards. boy did that ever make a true macro fo me.
all comments welcome on this photo

edit to add what my entry is not

Seems like a macro to me.
Nice color and texture, but the comp seems a little static...

I would certainly consider this a macro shot.

I think your picture is a macro by most standards.

I did a similar trick with my 35mm wide angle lens and my 18-55mm zoom lens. My macro entry may not be beautiful, but it is definitely a macro.

what do u mean by static?

i did a very small amount of noise reduction because i didnt want to lose the texture of the honeysuckle.

I think saracat might mean static as in rigid or unmoving maybe lifeless. Not having static. Your picture if very clear. I'd give it a 7 or 8.

Its a very nice picture, but what went wrong with the border?
It seems very disproportionate...

Woulda done at least above average. Anytime a flower or part of a flower fills the frame, it's a macro. Go for more punch in the colors. Great shot.

Sorry - wasn't very clear about that (Dinner was ready & I was hungry).
aplomb76 was right. Should have said that the composition seems a little flat and uninteresting to me. I like the honeysuckle, but having it stand straight up like that is a little, how shall I say, forced - unnatural. Honeysuckle in its natural state has the flower opening either horizontal or at a downward angle. Having it point upward kinda makes it seem very odd.
I've noticed that a lot of the macro shots and flower shots that do well on this site tend to keep toward a more natural (or naturally occuring) presentation.
Don't mean to sound like I have my head stuck up my butt, and I hope this helps a little.

saracat~ thank you...i understand now and you are right. i never thought of the natural position it should really be in. i was way too busy trying to get the technical aspects of the shot in while holding both the flower in one hand and the camera in the other.

rex~thank you for the comment

glad to see that my entry wont be voted down because its a close-up instead of a macro. and i have my defination of macro a little more clear now.thank you all for letting me know that "summers textures" qualified for the challenge.

Buzzrock~ i have no idea what is up with the border. it was a preset plug in for Photoshop. i think the border has more of a side view than a straight on frame. how could i fix that now that the image is flattened and saved? any one know?
