I just purchased a Maxtor 80 GB for 99 bucks and was wondering if it was a good deal or not.

It was on sale at bestbuy.com with 15 dollar mail in rebate, check if the store where I live had it and they did. So I went to get it, but they said they didn't honor the rebate. Which for 99, I was going to worry if its a good deal?

.50 a gb seems to be a good sale price currently but this usually includes rebates. These sale priced harddrives get snapped up so quickly that most times it's tough to find too.

$99 is decent, but not exceptional these days. Bestbuy offers a 160Gb drive for $37 after rebates, and external enclosures are cheap.

HERE'S a 200Gb internal drive for $79 and a USB 2.0 enclosure for $22, with no rebates involved.

I got a 300GB maxtor for $290, after tax.
At this point in time, most of the externals I researched ran for about a buck per gig, but those were in the 150GB+ range...
I imagine that if it came with a smaller HD, the dollar to GB ratio would be a bit higher, so you probably paid a fair price.

HERE'S a 120Gb USB2.0 external hard drive for $60 shipped after rebate, but you'd have to order it today.
