i have been using this browser for around 1 month ard. kinda like it over acdsee 7.

I like the feature where u can view 100% by just keeping the left mouse button down and also single key shortcuts to image editor program.

looking for feedbacks from other users :)

with the arrival of the PowerTool viewer from Microsoft/windows I think very few viewers will survive.

From the description it sounds like a great addition to the arsenal of free editing software! It is Windows-only?

...please tell me you've heard of the google-based (now free) Picassa 2 image browser, which, I could go into detail describing, but the fact that it's from google should alone be enough incentive for you to go check it out:
here

The fact that it's from Google makes me paranoid enough to probably not try it : )

lol!

the problem with almost all of these browsers is that they put an index file in each folder they visit. very few of them have a centralized database for cataloging images. iView comes close, but it's not free, either...

I believe ACDSee does this for Windows, which is very handy.

lol, there is no reason to fear anything! google doesn't own the world...... yet.
Haha, but with picasa 2, I found pictures I didn't even know I took, hidden somewhere on my computer ;)
P.C. Mag gave it a great review here

You've correctly identified one of the major problems : )

... that and the fact I have no assurance that my database isn't being backed up on Google's system, like everything else which passes through them.

this might seem cool to you, but i really don't like the idea of another program crawling my harddrive to index it while

1) it makes it damn near impossible to turn off or control (at least previous versions where like that) and

2) it coats my harddrive with index files in EVERY SINGLE FOLDER that it finds something 'viewable'

yes, it does have a slick, easy-to-use interface, but it's what is under the hood that bothers me...

just my 02

haha, you guys are making me paranoid...better delete that giraffe porn I have :-p
but really though, I may have given you the wrong impression when I said it was "google-based". The program was another companies, and you used to have to pay for it. Google bought it and tweeked the *search* itself to use google technology, but it is by no means transfers to the web. The only database that is created is on your local drive. Whew, that would be horrifying if it backed it up on the googles servers.

As for skiprow's comments, you can definitely turn off the "auto-scan" features, or give it specific directories you want it to do in...but those index files, I'm not absolutely sure, but you're probably right

I seem to remember that the recently released Google search tool (for use on your own computer) sent stuff back to Google-Central .... my point is only the tech-savvy will even know if it's coppying all your files or capturing keystrokes or whatever -- it's completely a matter of trust int he software company, and my threashold is very low (or is that high?) ...

yeh, I suppose it's better to just stick with a nice pirated version of ACDSee ;)
are you referring to google desktop as the search tool that sends stuff back to the server? shit, I better go uninstall that...
