Mick, you are truly a sage.

for me DPC is far more about the science of photography than it is about the artistery, once a person masters the science, artistic impression is set free.

I also think that given the diversity of clientele...there is little room for total artistic license anyway...however I think that on the technical aspect of photography there is a lot of help and learning here. as for artistic license...well I am careful! I have after all been called a pornographer and a smut pedler here in the past.

3) Regarding Sara's comment...

As I said before, we are (mostly) adults here, and as adults should have enough life experience to know how to interact with others. For those that can't/won't, well, they're missing out on a really great aspect of this site.

We are not all adults here. There are a lot of very young people here too. And, not all adults are actually as adult as you might hope. Some adults can be very immature, just as some young people can be very mature. It took me a while to realize this--probably because I still haven't accepted the fact that I'm an 'old' guy now. Once I did realize it though it became easier to ignore the negative, childish comments.

I know that, and that's why I said 'mostly'. Perhaps I should have phrased it differently....
Perhaps like this:
...we are (mostly) mature human beings here (physically, mentally, or emotionally) and as such, we should have enough life experience and/or insight and/or sensitivity to know how to interact with others...

Is that more palatable in terms of generalizations? :)

Sara

PS - Old guys are cool!! (They know what they're doing. Well - for the most part!!) :)

Sage, huh? Okay... I guess that sounds much better than 'old geezer'.

You are obviously a very intelligent young woman, and pretty darn cute too. Want to make me a dirty old sage?

No, you said it fine. I just happen to disagree a bit with the 'mostly' part. From my point of view, this place is 'mostly' younger people. I also wanted to point out that people can be very immature at any age ('cept for us sages, of course.)

Yeah, until we forget what we're doing, or fall asleep while we're doing it.

'Mostly' younger... Do you consider yourself that much older (years-wise) than most of the people here? You must be incredibly ancient, then! ;)
To me, most of the people here seem to be within 10 or 15 years (either way) of my age (29). And even those that aren't don't usually come across as projecting their age... If I want to know how old someone is I have to go to their profile 'cause I can't usually tell their age from their posts.
I guess I'm just one of those people who aren't incredibly interested in how old someone is. Heck, half the time I have to stop and think about how old I am. To me, physical age has little impact on maturity, so I tend to think of someone who is, say, 16 and very mature as an adult, while I might consider someone who is, say, 25 and immature as a late-blooming adolescent.

And if you hadn't said anything about being old, I'd never have guessed it.

I know I'm rambling a little, but I guess my point is that I take people on their merits and don't stick them in a particular category based on their calendar age.

Sara

PS - My brain has fried due to blood-sugar drop, so I'm going to eat now. Looking forward to continuing the discussion later.
