So we all can take a "purty" picture and they look great on the monitor but how many of us actually print them out?
If you do print them do you print them at home and on what kind of printer?
Do you take them to a professional to print? Is it worth the cost.

I ask these questions because I have access to the ESPON R 1800 printer and yesterday I needed to print about 20 8x10s for a job that I had been hired to do. I was pleased with the prints but I felt they could have been better. I still need to work with the color profiles and that will improve it even more, at least I hope so.

Today I found some coupons for some free 8x10s from Ritz Camera and took a few of the same shots to be printed there and the results blew me away. The colors are awesome and crisp. People in the store actually gathered around and admired my prints it was very cool.

So what is a girl to do??

For me it really depends, I send out a fair number to be printed if I want 4x6 I go to the local store. For the larger sizes or printer pictures and text I tend to use my home photoprinter (Canon i950) in my case and professional paper. There are lots of other threads on this subject if you care to search.

I asked the same question recently and the majority seemed to say try "www.mpix.com" I had a metallic print done by them, it was rather nice, although they don't suggest to use that paper for portraits( I didn't read the fine print) it still came out pretty cool. I haven't sent anything to them just lately, been too busy. They cropped it exactly right and the color seemed to be right on. The prices were reasonable too. Hope this helps.

I send all mine out -- Costco, DPC Prints, Ofoto, or Ritz are the most common. I don't have a color printer ... I want my photos on photo paper, and printing through these services are (usually) cheaper than running your own printer. All are available via internet upload.

It depends what I need them for. Wedding and Portraits always go out. Sports and small orders I do myself. The big trick is getting the proper printer profiles, and calibrating your monitor to your printer.

I haven't printed any of my pictures professionally, YET. Currently I print pictures on regular paper (they are mostly for previewing before I give someone the file on disc). When I do get around to printing I'll probably go professionally.
