I'm getting ready for vacation and I'll be taking some photos I'd like to edit while there. The issue is I use a PC and have PS CS for windows while the computer that will be available is a Mac. Adobe says there is no way to use the PC version on a Mac. This seems suspect to me because I know of several emulators to run windows programs on a mac. They don't necessarily run programs well but they do run.

Anyone have experience in this area?

An emulator will work, of course, but they aren't free. Virtual PC alone would cost more than Photoshop Elements. Your options depend upon what OS and software are available on the Mac you're using. The latest version of iPhoto can do quite a bit all by itself, and you can download free alternative software like Gimp. You might be able to download a demo of Photoshop, but it might watermark or prevent saving your images.

Yup yup...there are tryouts available. To my knowledge they are fully featured (so no watermarking), with a 1 month/30 day expiry. I'm not 100% thou. Worth checking out.

i dunno if you would have problems trying to open CS2 files in CS later on, though. might be worth doing a little investigating before you do all of your work in CS2.

Nice catch people. I had completely forgotten about the trial versions. This will be much easier than trying to get mine to install, activate, and run.

Especially considering that your version would never work.

Seem to be contradicting yourself.

It will "probably" run under emulation, with the following further potential problem areas:

@ not enough RAM to run both emulator and PS

@ on-line activation may prevent you from fully installing/running PS on a new machine, if you PS serial # is already associated in the Adobe databate with your own computer's CPU serial #.

@ PS will run slowly under emulation, not matter how fast the Mac

@ As previously-mentioned, emulation software costs more than PS Elements/retail

Personally, I'd look into getting a $100 Wacom tablet, which I believe still comes bundled with PS Elements (maybe v.2) and Painter -- just check that PSE is multi-platform. In the end, you'll still have the tablet, and your friend will have legal editing software.

Not at all. It seems highly unlikely that you would buy emulation software given that it's far more expensive than alternative solutions. Without emulation software, you have ZERO change of installing a PC version of Photoshop on a Mac.

The good General reminded me of another possibility... namely, that your 10D probabloy came with Mac image editing software.

What software came with your 10D? If it was Elements, then both PC and Mac versions are on the same disk and you could install that on the Mac. This wouldn't give you RAW editing options, though. For that particular problem, perhaps you could download a trial version of Capture One for Mac.
