I need input on purchasing a tripod and ball head. I'm looking to spend around $200.00 My requirements are as follows:
Good stability
Quick Release plates
Extends to a minimum of 66 inches without using center pole.
Ground level shots
As far as ball heads go, I have no clue. I'm open for suggestions. I'm new to all this. Thank you.

I have one of these

and I'm very pleased with it though the head is somewhat heavy if you intend lugging it around a lot. I'm afraid it's a bit more than your suggested budget but my previous tripod was less costly and much lighter and less stable and nearly useless so it may be worth considering spending a bit more and only buying a tripod once throughout your photography career.
There was a thread a day or so ago where someone was trying to sell a head like this one because he had found something better. Don;t know what the "something better" was and I can;t find the thread.

Thanks for the input. I just sent the link to my hubby and suggested it for a b-day gift. Well a girl can dream....
