Hi, I don't know much about interchangable lenses, but I was wondering how zoom works on them. For example, the camera I have right now just has a fixed lens, but has 10x zoom.
Take for example this lens:
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
How can you tell how much it will zoom in? |

divide the long mm by the short mm
ex
55/18= 3.05x |

55 divided by 18 is roughly 3, so it's a 3x zoom lens.
You lens isn't fixed, or it wouldn't zoom at all. I think you mean your lens is not removable ... meaning you can't buy different lenses for it like most SLR's. |

and for your info, the best focal range for a zoom to be sharp is <3.0 when you exeed 3.0 the lens starts becomming soft throughtout the range. |
