One quick look at The Best Cameras on Steve's Digicam site, has it in the top group, right along side the likes of the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II, Nikon D2X. Canon EOS 1D Mark II and the Fujifilm S3 Pro. (last updated 21 June 2005).
Hell of a camera, even with a lower effective pixel count.
That should account for something....

I was actually yelled at for getting the 1D instead of the D2H. I know of a guy who has had both and he swears by the D2H. Apparently it's ergonomically in a class above canon.

Once you are invested in lenses and accessories, it's hard to change teams |

He argued it was worth it... He has owned both, and did switch from a 1D to a D2H. There would be a loss in cash in the process, and that's one reason I gave him. Also I didn't feel like having to learn everything about every nikon lens there was like i've done mostly with canon.

d2h is like a photojournalist camera. if you're doing artistic stuff you'll want more pixels i think

The D2H is a fine camera. If it weren't Nikon would not have bothered to bring out an updated version, the D2Hs, after it's successor, the D2X, had been introduced. If you decide to buy a used D2H, be careful. There are going to be many very heavily used cameras on the market as photojournalists switch to the D2X.

yea this is true, but if you're really into doing artistic stuff you'll probably just be using film. Digital and fine art photography aren't don't mesh too well usually, course it's not always the case. |

I'll chime in to agree with kyebosh, coolhar and art-inept. The D2H is a very fast camera, which is great if you're interested in sports or photojournalism. For prints, stock, portraits, etc, I would rather have a larger sensor to give more cropping options. (Hence I will keep my 6.3MP 300D along with my 4MP 1D.)
When buying a D2H (or indeed any camera) make sure you know how many shutter actuations (photos) the camera has performed.

OR get the original one for $1500 used with almost the exact same features and performance.

Yep, that would be my preference. I was just pointing out the difference in price even between new ones.
