HELP! I own a Nikon D70. I FINALLY got my Nikkor 80-200mm 2.8 ED. I put it on....look at it for a few minutes, and now my camera doesn't work. It's acting as if theres no battery in the camera at all. The number of pics remaining aren't even showing on the display. I charged my battery yesterday till it was full, and I plugged it in about 10 minutes ago just to make sure. The light on the charger start out blinking (meaning it was charging) then about 2 minutes later went to a solid light (meaning fully charged). I put the battery back in my camera....NOTHING. Has anyone experienced this? Whats going on!? I've never had this problem before! AHHHH

Is this only happening with the new lens? Does it happen when no lens is attached or other lenses?

I put my normal lens back on....no response. I'm freaking out here! Lens, no lens, its as if my camera isn't recognizing the battery all the sudden. WTF?

Is there anything in the battery compartment that could prevent contact between the battery and the camera? Are the contacts clean?

What does it say in the manual? There's usually a troubleshooting section.

Well I just called Nikon....I may have to send my camera to them. It's still under warrenty, but still...I'm officially depressed. I leave on a Seattle adventure tomorrow for the rest of the summer. I have wedding gigs lined up, and no no camera :(. I just got my Nikkor 80-200 2.8 ED today, and couldn't even take ONE image. Drinking a glass of wine now.....martini on the way. Ba-hum-bug

Chris

Ps. Theres nothing in the battery compartment blocking the connection. I'm wondering if the lens somehow shorted something in my camera? The problems started after I mounted the 80-200mm and got an "err" readout on the display.

If you're gonna be shooting weddings, or anything professional, you simpl,y HAVE to have more thna one body for this very reason. So buy another one? Then when this one is fixed you'll have two...

Probably not the most useful suggestion, but... I feel for ya.

Might want to also pick up a spare battery just in case. It's about $15 on ebay. A non-nikon clone works equally well as the original nikon for me.

I second that. Get a second D70 (or whatever) so you will have something for your vacation and weddings. After your original cam is fixed you can probably resell without much loss. It's a big hassel but just deal with it I guess.
