my xt and 50mm f/1.8 are two days old and the camera already has a dead pixel and the lens a speck inside of it that i can't reach. should i send them both back? the lens has an obvious defect. but im not sure if the dead pixel is my own fault or if canon covers it. has anyone had similar experiences? im bummed

Send back.
They might say that one dead pixel is acceptable error though. And they might be right!
As for the lens - they should definitely fix but it's not a sealed lens and they may argue that you have not looked after it properly.
But it's worth a try... |

There should be a warranty on such a new camera. They should fix anything that is wrong on only a 2-day old camera. I'm so sorry! What a disappointing thing to happen! My brand new 20D is in the shop for repairs even as we speak, so I feel your pain.
