I still am unemployed ( although I had a promising interview today ) so I still don't have money to pay my dues here yet. So I can't post photos, but I can link. I took some quick shots of my friend's son. Can I get some comments.

It did work and I will discuss a few of your photos after reviewing them (in about 5 minutes)

Hi! Yes your links work...I'm just off out so I can't give a proper comment, but on a quick look I really like the two where his arms are in the air;) |

Hi,
Yes the link worked. I'm not good at portfolio shots but they seem a little soft focused. You may want to run USM on them once. Other than that they look good. To me the best two are the first two on the top row. The third picture seems to have an uncomfortable pose. Other than that like I said they look good. Keep up the work.

I'd say you've got a lot of promise, especially if you produce more photos of such qaulity as this one- //pixieland-practise.buzznet.com/user/?id=1345890
The rest are quite good as well, there were just a few possible lighting issues. Still, excellent work, and I would really like to see more.

I really appreciate you all looking at these for me , your opinions mean alot. I used the auto focus on my camera, and it sems to me that it has been a little off since I sent it to the shop to have a pin repaired, anybody know any reason for the soft focus on this camera?
What do you think of this photo?

I agree - that one was the best, I think. For prints, I would clone out those big bolts next to his head and sharpen his face and blur the background a little. Like this:
Great job, though!

"the writerside" on the lighting issues, I felt I should have had at least a reflector, but it was all in a hurry and I didn't have one, and actually haven't had the experience of using one really. Do you think that is what I needed? Any suggestions on lighting would be wonderful. |

Hey thanks Ken, The one you mention is the one I felt had the best focus. I am wondering if my camera is having some issues. I don't trust my manual focusing right now, I need new contacts and my eyes are so hard to fit for contacts or glasses. Loved the workyou did to it, I am just learning photoshop, so I don't trust some of my work there yet--be nice if i could send it all to you to adjust, LOL! Thanks again. |

Ken, if you are still out there,, what settings did you use when sharpening? I don' seem to be getting the same effect. |

I used Unsharp Mask - didn't note the settings, but it was likely around 100%, 1 pixel radius or less, 0 threshold. I masked around the head with about a 5 pixel feather on the mask. Hope this helps.

If you want to come as close to absolute perfection as possible, I would recommend using the reflectors. But, I honestly think you can get shots just as decent by making sure there is sunlight as directly on the model as possible.
I recently did my first shoot with a model and realized that I should try using the reflectors next time. Most of my shots had to be turned into something somewhat stylized (in a color and lighting sense) because of the shadows and lack of sunlight I was working with.
Here are a couple examples of what I mean by stylized color and lighting-

(I would encourage the voting members of DPC TO NOT explore further into that album as it contains my photos for both the fantasy and metal challenges. thank you)
