Sorry about all these event photography questions lately (drag racing, rodeo, circus), but you guys/gals are too helpful!

Okay, about photographing the circus...is it normally treated like a concert by the event organizers as far as access and credentials go? Should I contact the event organizers or the newspaper for credentials?

We have the Shrine-Circus coming to our smalltown next Wednesday and I was wondering what I could do to get in and take photos?

Also, what about salability? I predict this one will be more for my portfolio...

Any info/sample photos are appreciated!

anyone have experience with the photoshop Puzzle Plugin. Typically they are installed into the plugin folder and appear in the filter menu, I can't locate this in the filter menue as I normally do.

I used to work for a circus (Carson and Barnes Circus). It all depends on how you present yourself. If you're sitting in the stands with a camera and take pictures they don't mind too much. They generally warn you when NOT to take flash photos.

As for getting ringside for pictures it's probably best to get a hold of the local sponsors to get the contact information for the circus' head office. I did a google search and found too many Shrine Circus sites to know which one is the right one.

Just so you know they do consider the shows copywrited and if you plan on using the photos to sell, they probably won't let you do it without prior WRITTEN authorization from the circus (not the sponsor).

I have numerous pictures from the stands (I didn't own a camera while working there), but nothing beats pictures from the ringside. You might also want to go to the grounds before they arrive and take pictures of them setting up. That can offer some really good pictures. If you spend the whole day there getting to know everyone you might actually get some of the performers doing things just for you. It all depends on how you present yourself.

I don't know if I've been much help, but have fun.

Absolutely, thank you very much for your first hand knowledge on this!

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make this date, but if I do I'll make sure to post photos!

Well, hopefully you can make it. If you ever get to see my old circus you'll be going crazy. It's a FIVE ring circus, under a tent that can physically fit a football field inside of it. It's the alrgest tented circus in the world.

Oh, yeah...most circus' have really terrible lighting.
