After a scare because I drove to my site tonight without any CF cards, I managed to photograph the moon rising over the madison skyline:

First shot is almost directly from camera with just a little curves adjustment for levels balance. Second is actually a composite, using a water/skyline exposure of about 6-8 seconds with a moon shot of about .6 of a second.

Beautiful moonrise. Well worth the effort.

5927 is great John. With the capitol building lit up it makes for some interesting interpretations.

edit: well, what looks like a capitol building anyway.

Yep, the Wisconsin state capitol building. My goal is eventually to get my calculations such that I can see it rising directly behind the dome. Missed it by a good few degrees tonight.

we had a similiar light cloudy day this morning, with a fantastic moon, very much the same as you have here. Unfortunately, I was running a little late to work this morning. Nice capture. I like the first one much better than the second.

Both of those are great. It seems as if the moon and the capital building are haivng a luminance competition ;)

while I think it would be cool to have it rising behind the dome I think the spread out image helps you move your eyes around the picture. You did good, I was out here in Waukegan getting some shots over the lake but nothing this good. I may try again tonight with one of my favorite buildings ( //www.sabphotography.com//sunset6.htm )in the foreground and post tomorrow.
