Got Red on the 17th challenge. It took another 32 more challenges for the 2nd Red. Blue was 3rd challenge after this. Feels like it was a long time ago.

edit: usual typos that never go away.

Is there a little icon key thingo that explains what each of the honorable mention smilies are - i mean, i understand the numbers - but what about the ribbion with the little blue dude in it?

That was unique to the April Fool's speed challenge. Anyone who managed to pull off all the ridiculous requirements got a ribbon regardless of placement.

No other special ribbons- just the ever fashionable profile icons of the Site Council members. ;-)

You are an amazing talent. It's hard to believe that it took you that many entries to get your blue.

68 challenges for me to get a yellow. I didn't really ever expect to get one.

Thanks Marjo - you're too kind! I didn't really want one until then you see - so I never bothered!
; )

But seriously, it's not a talent thing, but more like a social experiment in gauging the audience. It has more to do with holding off and waiting for the 'dead cert' subject than being a skilful photographer per se, of which there are plenty who have no ribbons. I can honestly say that the blues I have scored were a gut feeling of optimism at the time of the shot - more than any other I have taken - a test to see if I could get close if I put my mind to it.

I believe that the key (if there really is one) is producing a shot that too few people can vote low! I think it's not all about 10s but reducing the number of lower-than-average votes, coupled with an unusual subject or different view of an ordinary one. I definitely wouldn't feel happy with a ribbon if I didn't feel able to hang, or repeatedly view the shot, that's for sure.

I think I'll shut up now, I've bored myself.

...somehow I got a red on my second entry... so... about 25 days :)

I started DPC pretty much when I started taking photography-ish pictures and then it took me 58 challenges to get the blue.

But of course everyone here learns something new each challenge so I enter as many as I can! :-)

23rd challenge I entered and still one of my more higher scoring ribbons.
