For freaking ever. In my first 31 entries I only had three top 10 finishes (none of them in the top 5), and I almost gave up at one point. Then I got my act together and landed a red on my 32nd try. By my 39th entry I had four ribbons and a fourth place, and nabbed a blue on my 48th entry. I've managed a 22% ribbon rate since my first one, with 47% of my entries on the top 10 (woohoo!), but I've become less consistent lately as I try some new directions.

1 year and a half and 29 challeges.
59 challenges 2 yellows and 5 top 10 (one top 5 amongst them)

Took me roughly 6 months from joining to get my first one. It was my 23rd challenge. Took another 7 months to get the second one and a little over 2 months to get my third.

What makes me more happy is that I have 2 out of 5 ribbons won with Canon A70 and 3 pics in top 10 with the same camera.
How I wish a dSLR!

I have been in top 50 twice since joining in January...but it has led to purchase of two more cameras and tons of experience. Everyone seems to think that there's a certain type of shot that does well here; evidently, I can't do it!

I just noticed that I got the Blue for using thislens.
I'll take what I can get.
My main focus is to shoot consistently well and to improve, which I have. A ribbon would be great but I feel that I'm lacking in that little extra(je ne sais quoi)....skill or creative edge to get there.
Seems like my best efforts are only a cut above 6's. Hopefully the sun will hit the moon and I'll nail something explosive.

My 56th challenge entry finally netted a ribbon, I just entered my 99th challenge and haven't had another ribbon as of yet, but my overall score is going up. I've had 29 entries in the top 50, and a couple in the top 10. Ironically my best scoring and highest placing shots were taken with my non-DSLR camera, go figure. Good luck to all the ribbon hunters, hope you bag one soon!

11th challenge for a 9th!
16th challenge for a 5th!
29th challenge for another 7th!
42nd challenge for a 4th! (Uggghhhh nothing worse than 4th place :-P)
66th challenge for a 10th! (Don't think I'm ever gonna make it...)
78 challenges for a red! (With THIS picture? :-O )

My 18th and 19th challenges netted me ribbons.. at just under 2 months, and just *at* 2 months after I started participating respectively.
Since then.. I've only been in the Top 10 once.. and in the Top 20 two or three times.. but mostly I just language down in 4.3 - 5.3 land.. as I have this insatiable urge to submit artsy-fartsy crap that nobody wants to "get" :)
(or humor.. but not so much these days).
So yah.. two ribbons by 19 challenges, and nowhere *near* in 40 challenges since then
Also.. my highest scoring images are the ones that haven't come close to ribboning.. (9th, 11th place)

Well I'm always happy if I make the top 50...still no ribbon yet. Maybe I'll get closer to it with this metal challenge. I have an incredible shot and am hoping to at least make the top 10!! Good luck to me...

Not being your typical orthodox photographer I travel not a linear line. It took me one month and 5 days to see my first blue ribbon. As you all know these little feather in the caps are more illusive than you think.
However, I have enjoyed the images displayed in this site. I go through every image and I am constantly surprised by the high caliber of talent that is so abundant. What a place! |

Yellow'ed on 16th challenge.
Then I had a lucky streak with red on 18th and yellow on 21st challenge. I've already peaked, I doubt I'll ribbon again :) |
